Activities at Ouzoud Falls
Activities at Ouzoud Falls
From thundering cascades and wild macaques to canyon hikes and cliff-side tagines — your complete activity guide.
Boat Ride Under the Falls
Local wooden boats take you right into the mist at the base of the main 110-metre cascade. You will get completely soaked — and it is absolutely worth every dirham. This is the single most memorable experience at Ouzoud and the one thing no visitor should skip.
Spot the Barbary Macaques
Wild Barbary macaques roam freely through the olive tree canopy surrounding the falls. Entire families — including babies — can be observed at close range throughout the day. Ouzoud is one of the only places in Morocco to see them in their natural habitat.
Canyon Trail Hike
Trails wind through the gorge, along the canyon rim, and through ancient olive groves and Berber villages. The path down to the base takes 20 minutes. For serious hikers, the full canyon circuit takes 3 to 4 hours and reveals viewpoints most visitors never find.
Sunrise and Rainbow Views
Morning mist from the falls creates stunning rainbow halos when the sun hits between 9am and 11am. The upper viewpoint — rarely found by day-trippers — offers the most dramatic panoramic shots. Stay overnight to catch the falls at first light with no crowds at all.
Insider Tips Before You Go
Arrive before 9am — day-trip coaches from Marrakech arrive around 10am and the site fills fast
Wear shoes you don't mind getting wet — the path near the base is permanently damp from mist
Do not feed the Barbary macaques — they are wild animals and will bite if provoked
Bring cash — boat operators and most restaurants do not accept cards
The rainbow appears at the base of the falls between 9am and 11am when sunlight hits the mist
The upper viewpoint is on the left side of the falls from the entrance — most visitors never find it
