Wild Barbary macaques roam freely through the olive tree canopy surrounding the falls. Entire families — including babies — can be observed at close range throughout the day. Ouzoud is one of the only places in Morocco to see them in their natural habitat.

Insider Tips Before You Go

Arrive before 9am — day-trip coaches from Marrakech arrive around 10am and the site fills fast

Wear shoes you don't mind getting wet — the path near the base is permanently damp from mist

Do not feed the Barbary macaques — they are wild animals and will bite if provoked

Bring cash — boat operators and most restaurants do not accept cards

The rainbow appears at the base of the falls between 9am and 11am when sunlight hits the mist

The upper viewpoint is on the left side of the falls from the entrance — most visitors never find it
