Getting to Ouzoud
Ouzoud Falls is located 150 km northeast of Marrakech in the Middle Atlas mountains — around 2.5 hours by road. There are several ways to make the journey depending on your budget and preference.

When to go
The best time to visit is March to May when the waterfalls are at full power after winter rains, temperatures are comfortable, and the landscape is lush green. October to November is the best alternative.

- October–November: Fewer crowds, comfortable temperatures, golden light
- June–August: Hot and crowded — visit early morning if you must
- December–February: Cold but dramatic — powerful falls, very few visitors

October – November. Fewer crowds, cooler air, beautiful golden light on the falls.
Winter
December – February. Cold but dramatic. Powerful falls and almost no tourists.
Summer
June – August. Very hot, reduced water flow, extremely crowded on weekends.
Cliff-side restaurants
Terraced restaurants cling to the rock face directly above the falls, offering fresh Moroccan tagines and mint tea with one of the most dramatic views of any restaurant in the country.
- Most restaurants are family-run and serve fresh tagines, couscous, and salads
- Prices are very reasonable — a full meal costs 60–120 MAD
- Most do not accept cards — bring cash
- Book a table with a direct waterfall view if possible — ask when you arrive

Ouzoud is a natural site with steep paths, mist, and limited facilities. Pack smart and you will have a much better experience.

Insider Tips Before You Go
Arrive before 9am — day-trip coaches from Marrakech arrive around 10am and the site fills very fast
The upper viewpoint is on the left side of the falls from the main entrance — most visitors never find it
Do not feed the Barbary macaques — they are wild animals and will bite if provoked
The rainbow appears at the base of the falls between 9am and 11am when morning sunlight hits the mist
Stay overnight to experience the falls at sunrise — completely different without the day-trip crowds
The boat ride under the main cascade is the highlight — take it even if you get soaked, worth every dirham
No — Ouzoud Falls has no entrance fee. The site is completely free to enter and open year-round, every day. The only costs you will encounter are optional — the boat ride (around 30 MAD), food at the restaurants, and any guided activities.
Ouzoud Falls is approximately 150 km northeast of Marrakech. By car or organised tour it takes around 2.5 hours each way. By grand taxi via Azilal the journey takes 3 to 4 hours total.
Most visitors spend 5 to 7 hours at the falls — enough time for the viewpoints, the boat ride, lunch at a riverside restaurant, and a walk through the olive groves. If you want to hike the full canyon trail or catch sunrise and sunset, plan an overnight stay.
March to May is the best season — the waterfalls are at full power from winter rains, temperatures are mild, and the landscape is green and lush. October to November is an excellent alternative with fewer crowds and beautiful light. Avoid summer weekends when the site becomes extremely crowded with day-trippers from Marrakech.
Yes — swimming in the natural pools at the base of the falls is permitted and very popular in summer. The water is cool and clear. The boat ride also takes you directly under the main cascade if you want a more intense water experience.
